Canada blocks Russia-NATO talks – envoy

Russian envoy to NATO said on Tuesday that Canada has blocked the adoption of all documents on the forthcoming ministerial meeting of the Russia-NATO council.

“Representatives of certain delegations, and I am speaking about Canada, have blocked the adoption of any documents at the forthcoming ministerial meeting of the Russia-NATO council. This testifies to the fact that a faction against the reset of relations with Russia is steadily forming inside NATO,” the Russian envoy said.

At the same time, Rogozin said that he personally did not think that the meeting should be canceled because of Canada’s move.

The Russia-NATO council was established in 2002 as a principal body in promoting cooperation. Despite initial success, its functions were stopped after the 2008 war in South Ossetia. It took a year for the diplomats to mend the relations and the ministerial meeting, due on December 4, is the first high-level summit of Russia and NATO leaders in more than 18 months.
