Olympics venues to be moved from Sochi after 2014

Some of the venues to be built for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi will be moved to other regions of Russia once the Olympiad is over, Vladimir Putin says.

The Russian PM met IOC representatives in the location for the 2014 Games. He explained that, by moving the venues, they'll be able to develop winter sports over a much greater area.

“We plan to build five ice palaces for the Olympic Games in Sochi. I believe five ice palaces in the Black Sea resort are too much. We have an idea to have three of them, which will be easy to assemble and disassemble, so that after the 2014 Games we could move them to other regions of Russia for the development of winter sports there,” Vladimir Putin said.

He also assured the Olympic officials that the funds needed to prepare for the Games are being provided in full and the construction is proceeding according to schedule, in some cases ahead of it.

"We have been saying all along that the funds required will be made available fully and on time, whatever the difficulties. And this is how things are actually getting done,"
Vladimir Putin said.
