Libya now and the NHS future (E277)

The destruction of what passed for the Libyan liberation has had catastrophic consequences for Libya and for Europe. What was once a single state became many states or rather no state at all with multiple parliaments, prime ministers, and armies. For better or for worse at least one part of Libya’s agony may be close to its end. A new strongman, General Khalifa Haftar, has arrived at the gates of Tripoli. Praised by Donald Trump, the government accepted by the ‘international community’ has been abandoned, and a new reality was recognized. So, we invited a former soldier and security and intelligence expert Charles Shoebridge into the studio to tell us about this new Ghaddafi.

We have all read plenty of prescriptions on the future of the NHS, but they are usually in a doctor’s handwriting and difficult to follow. “The Deceit Syndrome” is a novel which takes on the NHS and paints a nightmarish picture of a dystopian future when the clock strikes thirteen. Dr. Paul Hobday is a retired doctor and a highly readable author, so, we invited him into the studio to ask whether his new book is a work of fiction or about the reality.
