Three ‘Cities of Military Glory’ join list

Russia has recognized the military contribution of three cities in winning World War Two. In a Kremlin ceremony, the Russian President gave commendations to veterans and the mayors of Pskov, Arkhangelsk and Kozelsk.

President Medvedev said the whole country is now aware of the cities’ heroic past and their promising future, and vowed to visit the town of Kozelsk in the near future.

He pointed out that “during the Great Patriotic War, Kozelsk played a very important role in defending Moscow.”

The ceremony is part of a series of events to mark the 65th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany.
