Conference for Russian-language media kicks off in Israel

Preserving the Russian culture and language abroad is the focus of an international conference for Russian-language media outlets, which is taking place in Israel.

Some 200 million Russian viewers currently live outside the country.

President Dmitry Medvedev sent a message of support to the congress.

Moscow is currently concerned with what it calls efforts to rewrite history on the part of certain states.

One of the aims of the conference is to aid the correct portrayal of the role of the Soviet people and troops in the Second World War.

Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the gathering, calling on his own fellow citizens to support the Russian-speaking community.
