Japanese hotel introduces ‘crying rooms’ for women

A hotel in central Tokyo has introduced innovative “crying rooms” for women to help combat stress. The special rooms are complete with soft tissues, make-up removers and a selection of soppy movies.

The Mitsui Garden Yotsuya hotel in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo, which already provides female-only rooms, has launched another project to cater women - rooms which allow women to cry heartily in private.

The rooms offer special services including a selection of 12 heart-touching movies such as Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks, and a collection of tear-inducing manga comics from the Japanese publisher Maruzen, according to the hotel’s spokeswoman, AAP reported.

The hotel also offers super-soft tissues, steam eye masks, make-up remover and warm sheets to weep in comfort.

The rooms which aim to help women overcome emotional problems and cry the stress away can be booked at 10,000 Japanese yen per day (around $84) and will be available until August 31.

Among other unusual stress relieving services, Japan already has cuddle cafes called Soineya. The so-called “sleep together shop” offers customers a chance to rest in the arms of a young woman for a fee. Sexual advances are strictly prohibited, however.
