Human rights activists to discuss capital punishment in Paris

France is preparing to host the third World Congress against the Death Penalty. The three-day conference in Paris will gather human rights activists and politicians from around the globe.

On Wednesday January 31, the European Union condemned countries applying the death penalty and called for an immediate moratorium on the practice.

The global debate about capital punishment was renewed after the execution of Saddam Hussein. The Death penalty is still in force in 66 countries.
