3 dead after small plane crashes into house in Massachusetts (PHOTOS)

A small plane carrying 3 people on board has crashed into a house in Plainville, Massachusetts, setting it on fire and forcing owners flee the blaze, local fire and aviation officials confirmed.

Several firefighting crews responded to reports that the plane had crashed into the house at around 6:00pm local time, fire officials told Boston TV channel, WCVB.

Photos posted on social media by witnesses showed a house on fire, as well as what looked like debris from the tail part of a small plane.

The plane’s pilot and passengers did not survive the crash, state police spokesman David Procopio said, according to the Boston Globe.

The Federal Aviation Administration later confirmed that an aircraft had been involved in the incident, identifying it as a Beechcraft BE36 plane. According to the FAA it was heading to Norwood Memorial Airport in Massachusetts from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The owners of the house were out and are safe, the Sun Chronicle reported, citing their photographer on the scene.

Several fire brigades and emergency personnel were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and deal with the incident. Police and aviation officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
