Kremlin in Pskov damaged by fire

Two of the seven towers of the Kremlin in Russia's north-western town of Pskov have been seriously damaged by fire – 448 years to the day a fire destroyed the very same construction.

The fire started on the night of April 27 in a restaurant in Vlasyevskaya tower and then spread to the rest of the building which dates back to the 12th century and another tower – Rybnitskaya.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within two hours and no casualties were reported.

All wooden constructions of the Vlasyevskaya tower were completely gutted while the Rybnitskaya tower suffered considerable roof damage.

An investigation committee has considered two options: arson or a wiring problem.
